Big Boss Season Winners Over The Years

Bigg Boss is a reality television game show that is broadcast on Star Vijay channel and Colors channel in India. It is based on the Big Brother concept which was telecast in the Netherlands by Endemol.

The Bigg Boss has completed 13 seasons within a span of 13 years of the telecast. It has thus established itself as one of the best and most sought after reality TV shows in India. It is also famous for its controversies.

In this Bigg Boss season show, the participants have to stay together in a separately constructed house that is isolated from the outside world. The housemates will be voted out on a weekly basis and the last person who remains in the house is declared the winner of the show. During the period of their stay in the house, the participants are continuously monitored by personal audio microphones and live television cameras.

The contestants are given weekly tasks and competitions are set by Bigg Boss based on which one person per week is evicted. There is also a Confession Room where the participants share their personal thoughts and also the nominees for eviction that week. The housemates nominate privately a member of their fellow housemates whom they want to be evicted from the house. The housemates with the maximum number of nominations are then announced and viewers are given the chance to vote. This voting can take place via SMS or through a smartphone application or online through social media. Through this voting, they can try to evict the person they want to be evicted or the person whom they want to be saved from eviction. The last person who remains in the house is declared the winner.

The participants are required to do household tasks and tasks that are assigned to them by the producers of the show. The producers of the show communicate with the housemates through the authority figure known to them as Big Boss. These tasks are given to assess their team spirit and teamwork abilities. The housemates are given a weekly allowance to buy luxury food items other than supplied ones depending on the outcome of the tasks.

The Bigg Boss Season success and acceptance by the Indian audience has led to the expansion of the Big Boss Season in other regional languages like Kannada, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. The first episode was telecast on 3rd November 2006 on Sony Entertainment television and it was hosted by Arshad Warsi. The winner of the first season was Rahul Roy. He is an actor by profession and he has acted in old Hindi movies. Thus it was no doubt that he was chosen as the people's favorite as he hailed from a film background and he had a good amount of supporters out there.

The second Bigg Boss The season became an instant hit. It was the most anticipated show as the response to the Big Boss Season 1 was extremely good. The budget of the show increased and the host was replaced by Shilpa Shetty who was a winner of Big Brother.


Bigg Boss Season 2 was aired by the Colors channel. Ashutosh Kaushik was the winner of the second season of  Bigg Boss. He took home the prize money worth INR one crore. On October 4th, 2009 the Bigg Boss Season 3 first episode was broadcast.  Amitabh Bachchan was the host.  Vindu Dara Singh had been nominated for more than ten times in a row and he survived it and he won the show.

Bigg Boss Season 4 became a sensational hit because Amitabh Bachan was replaced by Salman Khan. Moreover, a soap actress had participated in the show. The winner of Bigg Boss Season 4 was Shweta Tiwari. This season became very popular because it had housemates like Veena Malik, Sara Khan, Khali, Ashmit Patel, Manoj Tiwari, and Samir Soni. On October 2nd, 2011, Big Boss Season 5 was aired where Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt was the host. In this season the new participants made peculiar fuss which was indeed worthy to watch.The winner of Bigg Boss Season 5 was Juhi Parmar and her winning the show was not a surprise as she was a popular television soap star and had the support of millions of people in the country.

Big Boss Season 6 was telecast on October 7th, 2012 and it became very interesting after the entry of Imam Siddiqui made a statement about the host Salman Khan that Salman Khan owed him money. Imam Siddiqui also made nasty comments on Urvashi Dholakia about her parenting skills which made Urvashi break down into tears. Urvashi Dholakia was the winner of the sixth season of Bigg Boss. 

In the year of 2013, on September 15th, the show was telecast on Colors. Many contestants underwent an emotional phase for three months. Salman Khan remained the host because he became the catalyst for the show. The winner of Bigg Boss Season 7 was Gauhar Khan. Gautam Gulati won the eighth season of Bigg Boss. The winner of Big Boss Season 9 was Prince Narula. Following the footsteps of their predecessors, Manveer Gurjar, Shilpa Shinde and  Deepika Kakar won the tenth, eleventh and twelfth season of Bigg Boss respectively.


Big Boss 13 was aired on 29th September 2019 on Colors channel. Salman Khan is hosting the show for the 10th consecutive year. The finale was scheduled for January but due to the popularity of the show, it has been given a 5-week extension by the channel. So, this season is the longest season of Bigg Boss!
