Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana also known as Ayushman Bharat Yojana aims to provide medical coverage for economically backward people in India who are deprived from the proper healthcare facility.
Started from 23rd November 2018, Prime Minister rolled out these scheme targeting at least 50 crore Indian citizens and it's a success and has benefited millions across the country ever since.
Since September 2019, it has empanelled 18,059 hospitals admitted 4,406,461 lakh beneficiaries and have issued over 10 crore e-cards.
Earlier known as Ayushman Bharat - National Health Protection Plan which is now known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Aryogya Yojana aims to provide secondary and territory healthcare completely cashless.
Features of PMJAY
With Pradhan Mantri Jan Aryogya Yojana the beneficiaries gets e-cards which helps them to get cashless medical treatment across the country at an empanelled private or public hospital.
Unlike any private mediclaim policy the PMJAY offers 3 days of pre-medical and 10 days of post-medical expenses. Around 1400 medical procedures with OT expenses are taken care of. All in All the e-card issued in PMJAY offers coverage of Rs.5 lakh per family every year thus providing access to the economically vulnerable people proper healthcare service.
Eligibility for both Rural and Urban People.
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana aims to provide healthcare to 10 crore families who fall under lower income group, however, it is divided into two for rural and urban i.e 8 crores in rural and 2.33 crore in urban. PMJAY provides coverage of Rs.5 Lakh per family every year benefitting nearly 50 crore individual.
However the scheme has certain eligibility criteria to avail healthcare facility, for rural, it's categorized as meager income, lack of housing or other deprivations and for urban, it is categorized on an occupation basis.
